St. Peter Chanel Formation House was built and blessed in October 2016. It is located at #82, 1st Street, Juna Subdivision, Matina, Davao City.
The house can accommodate about 24 candidates. It is equipped with bedrooms, a computer room, a dining hall, a library, a kitchen, and visitors’ and meeting rooms. It also has a beautiful chapel used for prayer and liturgical celebrations. The formation house offers a simple and welcoming space conducive to the training of future Marists.
It welcomes not only Filipino candidates but also other Asian candidates. At present, we have one Vietnamese and two Burmese candidates discerning a Marist vocation. The diversity of people and cultures reflects the nature of the Marist congregation, which is international and intercultural.
We run two programs. Firstly, the Aspirancy period, which provides formation for young men who feel called by the Lord to become Marist religious. It is a four-year program in which aspirants have the opportunity to discern, pray, study, learn about Marist life, engage in pastoral work, and build community—all while being accompanied by formators. One of the aims of this program is to complete studies in Philosophy.
The second program is the Postulancy, which follows the Aspirancy period. It is a time for candidates to deepen their Marist vocation and prepare seriously for the Novitiate. This stage usually lasts from six months to one year.
The house is named after St. Peter Chanel, the first Marist saint, as a reminder that everything done here is directed toward mission. The candidates are being formed to become future Marist missionaries to the ends of the world.
We hope that the St. Peter Chanel Formation community will continue to be blessed with vocations now and in the future. If you are interested in a Marist Vocation please visit this page.
